Justin originally hails from Jackson, Mississippi. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry from Leavell College, and then attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he received a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling. Justin has a wide range of experience in the counseling setting, and has also been highly involved in ministries ranging from Campus Crusade for Christ at Mississippi State University to student pastor at First Baptist Church in Carthage, Mississippi. Justin has a genuinely caring heart and a fun-loving personality that allows him to quickly connect with the kids. He and his wife, Lauren, have been blessed with two boys, Andy and Keller. When he is not busy learning how to be a dad, Justin enjoys disc golf, soccer, baseball, traveling and doing almost anything outside.

Justin is originally from San Bernardino, California. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Business from California State University and went on to receive a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Justin has worked with teens through a number of sports outreach programs and while earning his master’s degree interning at multiple Christian counseling centers. Justin is a pretty active fellow finding himself spending quite a bit of time basketball and playing all types of sports. Justin has a strong desire to develop genuine relationships with each of the Heartlight teens, and walk alongside them and their families while encouraging lifelong and lasting change.

Melissa is from Hallsville, Texas and has been familiar with Heartlight since her high school years. She graduated from East Texas Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science degree and then went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, with a Marriage and Family Specialization, from the University of Texas. Melissa considers it a privilege to be able to walk with teens and their families on their journey of healing and change. She believes the counseling relationship is a powerful method for change. Melissa has been involved in several youth programs at various churches and is passionate about working with teens. She’s a Florida Gator’s fan, a picky eater, a lover of her two boxers, and a laugh-lover who is terrified of clowns, heights, and spiders.
With a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Dallas Baptist University, and an undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology, Alicia joins our staff after working with the student ministry at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. Committed to help all the Heartlight residents grow through any issues that are “brought to the table”, Alicia also hopes to bring encouragement and support to the other Heartlight residential staff. She enjoys baseball, camping, baking, running, playing guitar and painting. Her gentle spirit and relational approach offers a welcome mat for any teen to engage in a healthy discussion about issues that are causing their inappropriate behavior. We’re thrilled to have Alicia on our staff.
Katie E. Self
An Austin Texas native, Katie received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and later attended St. Edward’s University where she received her Masters of Art in Counseling. Katie has worked with teens in a number of settings dedicated to various needs such as addiction recovery, grief & loss, and trauma & acute crisis. She is excited to be part of a healing process among teens and their families and loves the challenge of supporting different needs towards the same goal of reconnection. Katie loves adventures, laughing, being outdoors, and is a master at connecting with those around her. Her winsome laugh and attractive personality engages the heaviest of hearts, and makes all comfortable in her presence.
