About Parenting Today's Teens
Parenting Today's Teens was an idea encouraged by several radio veterans, who sought an avenue for Mark Gregston to give daily hope and help to many thousands of parents across America, just as he has done in weekend seminars and through his residential counseling program for struggling teens.
Teenagers today are increasingly falling victim to the worst elements of our culture and society. According to Gregston, "We have a generation of kids in their teen years who are confused and disillusioned. They've lost their innocence and they've lost what should be carefree days of adolescence. And kids from good Christian families are falling victim just a much as kids from non-religious families."
Mark Gregston began helping teens and their parents 30 years ago, when he was an area leader for Young Life. He and his wife Jan opened up their home to work one-on-one with live-in teens who were struggling through crisis family problems.
In 1989, Mark and his wife Jan started Heartlight Ministries, a residential counseling center for troubled teenagers, located in East Texas. Over the years, Heartlight has helped several thousand teens get to the other side of their problems after coming to the 100-acre campus to be counseled and mentored for 9-12 months.
Mark and Jan also share their lives through retreats, speaking engagements, and counseling of parents and teens. Mark travels most weekends speaking or leading the Dealing with Today's Teens Seminars in cities across the nation. His hope is to help others before they need a type of program like Heartlight for their child.
Mark is also the writer of a popular blog on parenting, markgregston.com, and is a guest author for the parenting sections of Crosswalk.com and Christianity.com. The Heartlight Residential Counseling Center for troubled teens is recommended by Focus on the Family's Troubled With website.
