Academic Staff

Lindsey MiersmaLindsey Miersma, Academic Coordinator. Lindsey returns to Heartlight for her second stint as a staff member after living residentially in 2007/08. After her first journey at Heartlight, she returned to her home state of California and spent time working as a pre-school teacher in San Diego and perfecting her hobbies of piano, board games, and Frisbee. Now we’re thrilled to have her back at Heartlight to serve as the Academic Coordinator. She brings an energetic, easygoing, and patient personality to the staff and says, “I love seeing kids grow and change and learn more about themselves.”
Jane FiddlerJane Fidler– Teacher, is originally from East Aurora, New York. She attended State University of New York at Buffalo where she received a B.A in Secondary English and a Masters in Reading K-12. Jane has had 12 years experience with teaching in the public schools located in New York as well as Texas. At Heartlight she is the English and History teacher for South and East houses. In her free time Jane enjoys reading, writing and photography. She is motivated to help children succeed.
Tamryn WeberTamryn Weber – Teacher. Tamryn joined the Heartlight staff after teaching for 2 ½ years in the Hallsville/Longview school districts. She is very familiar with the program due to friends, Dave and Deb Fetherlin, and also has taught several of the residents that attended public school. She attended Azusa Pacific University in California where she obtained her M.A. in Education with an emphasis on Teaching. Now she and her husband Jon, an admissions counselor at LeTourneau University, live in the Longview area with their infant son, Esmond. In her free time, Tamryn enjoys being active in her local church, reading, cooking, and spending time with family.
Roni MillsRoni Mills, Teacher. A Hallsville native, Roni graduated from Hallsville HS and then graduated from East Texas Baptist University majoring in Education-Mathematics. Roni and her husband have three children, Wesley (5), Samuel (3) and Daniel (2). Roni is very passionate about teaching and loves to help students succeed in both life and in math. In her free time, Roni enjoys spending time scrapbooking, waterskiing, boating and camping.
Carolyn AylorCarolyn Aylor, English Teacher. Carolyn is a native Texan, growing up in West Texas and spending much of her life in Lubbock. She came for a conference at Heartlight several years ago and wound up returning to serve on our teaching staff. Carolyn attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in English. She then went on to earn a Masters of Education in Guidance and Counseling from Stephen F. Austin. Carolyn spent time teaching in the Longview ISD an eventually retired from this setting, making her available now to teach English to our students at Heartlight. Overall, Carolyn spent 7 years teaching high school English and 27 years as a high school counselor. She loves influencing kids for good, and appreciates their youthfulness as she says it keeps her young. Carolyn also likes to travel, watch sports-especially football (as any true West Texan would appreciate), spend time with her family and friends, play cards, and solve a mean sudoku puzzle. She is married and has three grown sons, and is anxious for a daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

Heartlight's therapeutic schools provide troubled teens with the help and counseling troubled teens need. It gives time for the whole family to heal. Everyone can then look past the anger and teenage rebellion to focus on the troubled teenager's healing. Our Christian residential schools serve Texas, California, Oregon and Washington on the West Coast and Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Nevada in the Southwest, from Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Louisiana, and Mississippi, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois in the Central States, from Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Idaho in the north, and from Georgia, Florida, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New Jersey along the east coast. Teens come to Heartlight from throughout the U.S. and Canada.
