Definition of Success

Does Heartlight "work" for every child?

Heartlight does work for most kids who complete the program and graduate. Our success stories are many.  Fewer are successful if they pull out of the program early.

There are always the few who just don't "want" for anything in their life (right now), and whatever influence or example we set, they don't respond (or don't appear to). In some cases the losses in the teenager's life (divorce, death, loss of self-worth or loss of sexual innocence) or the peer influences they go back to after leaving Heartlight are just too strong and they fall back into their old ways.

The focus of everything that Heartlight does is to create a better environment, a better program, and a better atmosphere, where God can do "His thing" through us as we work with these teenagers day in and day out for several months. We work hard to give the kids an opportunity to choose a better path and we "love them" down that road.  Whilke they are here at Heartlight, we remove all the obstacles and influences that have either been dragging them down, or covering up their pain, so real work can be done in their lives.

Most of all, our focus and leaning is for God to make the changes in the heart of each child, and we provide the arena for that to happen. To that end we put all of our efforts. Our goal is to "communicate the Gospel across a bridge of friendship that doesn't stop if people don't respond." Our staff will remain faithful to that end, and will not grow weary in doing good things for kids and families…for in due time, there will be a harvest of change in the lives of those we serve.
