Does Heartlight “work” for every child?

Success is a hard word to define in the world of struggling teens. And each parent’s definition of success varies for what they want to see in the life of their child and ultimately what they desire for their family.

But we do know this. Our goal is to have each child enrolled at Heartlight graduate the program. And of those that graduate, 100% of our parents are satisfied with the result of their child’s involvement with us. This doesn’t mean that there won’t be “hiccups” and a few “bumps” upon a child’s return home; those are normal in any adolescent’s life.

Our definition of success is the parent’s definition of success. You can hear their comments in the following videos. About Our Founders

Mark and Jan Gregston began their work with teens 34 years ago as youth ministers in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their involvement also with Young Life moved them to open their home to work with teens who were struggling through crisis family problems. This sparked the idea for a larger residential program for teens with professional counselors and caring mentors. In 1989, Mark and his wife Jan moved to East Texas, where they started Heartlight. Since then, Heartlight has helped several thousand struggling teenagers turn away from negative motivations and peers toward a more positive and productive outlook on life.

Heartlight's therapeutic schools provide troubled teens with the help and counseling troubled teens need. It gives time for the whole family to heal. Everyone can then look past the anger and teenage rebellion to focus on the troubled teenager's healing. Our Christian residential schools serve Texas, California, Oregon and Washington on the West Coast and Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Nevada in the Southwest, from Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Louisiana, and Mississippi, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois in the Central States, from Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Idaho in the north, and from Georgia, Florida, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New Jersey along the east coast. Teens come to Heartlight from throughout the U.S. and Canada.
