    PODCAST SCRIPT:

Before we buy new clothes, we try them on.  Teens do the same thing…with their behavior.

Kids don’t know how to act, so they try different personas until one works for them.  One recent persona that I hear a lot about from frantic parents is girls claiming same-sex tendencies.  It’s a current fad, so they try it on for awhile.  But it doesn’t mean they have made a life choice, any more than my long hair as a teen made me a lifelong hippie.

When a persona is a fad, the worst thing a parent can do is to label that child.  In most cases, the “trying on” phase won’t last, so don’t make it last by branding them with it.
