    PODCAST SCRIPT:

When I was a teen I remember my motorcycle wreck well…because it broke something dear to me.

I “borrowed” our family’s motorcycle when I was a teen and went for a joy ride.  Of course, I wrecked it.  Though no bones were broken, it led to a more painful break in my relationship with my dad.  He hardly spoke to me for months.  I remember wishing I had been hurt, for maybe my dad would have reacted differently.

In later years when my teens disappointed me, I did my best to react as a parent should do, to correct my kids appropriately, but not allow their misbehavior to break my relationship with them. For bones and bruises can heal, but relationships can remain broken forever.
