    PODCAST SCRIPT:

Parents can sometimes feel slighted by their teen’s quest for independence.

It’s a normal and necessary for teens to crave independence, but it can be painful for a parent when it happens.  It can even feel like a rejection or a slap in the face. And it can turn into rebellion if the parent doesn’t allow some independence.

So, even though it can be painful, be proactive in encouraging your teen’s drive for independence.  Give them more responsibility for their own decisions and allow them to get a job to pay for their wants beyond the basic necessities.

While loving parents enjoy babying their kids, backing off a bit in the teen years is a vital part of preparing teens for adulthood.
