    PODCAST SCRIPT:

Often when I talk to teenagers, I sit below them.  Let me tell you why.

When I’m talking to a teenager, I intentionally position myself lower than they are.  If they’re standing, I sit down.  If they’re sitting down, I sit on the floor.  This small step sends a powerful signal that I’m not trying to force my opinion on them. In fact, I’m leaving it up to them to control the conversation.

Before the first word is ever spoken, I’m showing them that I value them as a person and I want to hear them out.  For parents, it’s a great way to encourage open and meaningful communication.  So, take a seat (below them)…you may be surprised how well it works.
