  • Teens in a Virtual World (5-5-2011)

    PODCAST SCRIPT:

With the growth of video games and digital communications, many teens today are spending more time in the virtual world than the real one.

Cell phones, video games, iPads, iPods, Myspace, Facebook…it’s a new world, but one that is also lacking meaningful relationships.  The virtual world and the fantasy of video games that are getting more and more realistic can have a powerful effect on young people, drawing them in like an addiction.  In fact the symptoms of withdrawal from it are known to be similar to withdrawal from drugs.

So, it’s up to parents to put some limits on the amount of time their kids spend in the virtual world, and to encourage them to develop meaningful friendships in the real world.
