    PODCAST SCRIPT:

If you’ve wronged your teen, an admission and apology can go a long way toward restoring your relationship.

If you owe your teenager an apology, do it now while you are thinking about it.  Come to them with sincerity and humility to ask for their forgiveness.  Use words like, “I was wrong,” “I made a mistake” or “I know I hurt you.”

As you apologize, take care to explain, but never excuse, your behavior.  Excuses only undermine what you are trying to accomplish and make you appear less than sincere.  Even if you have to bite your tongue to keep from saying it, do not try to excuse your actions. Just say you were wrong and ask for forgiveness.
