  • Conflict With Your Teen (4-1-2011)

    PODCAST SCRIPT:

Ben Franklin said, “The door to success swings on the hinges of opposition.”  I find it no coincidence that he said that as the parent of two teenagers.

Conflict is not pleasant, and most of us try to avoid it if possible.  Some parents even punish their kids if they start a conflict.  But I look at conflict as an opportunity to open the door to positive change.  How else will you hear what is on your teen’s heart?

Conflict needs to remain respectful, so set the ground rules, but it shouldn’t be avoided.  You’ll find it can help you reinforce your values and beliefs, it will reduce your teen’s pent-up emotions, and ultimately strengthen your relationship.
