    PODCAST SCRIPT:

Teenagers of this generation are among the most self-centered this country has ever seen.

Starting in the late 80’s, public schools shifted from achievement to focusing on building self-esteem. So, grades were padded, honor rolls were eliminated, and trophies were given to everyone just for trying. Kids were daily told that they are special, not for anything they have done, but just because. And it gave them a super hero mentality.

In this environment, which still prevails in many schools today, parents would be wise to focus on building self-control in their kids. Working hard for good grades and learning to control their emotions and behavior is proven to bring self-esteem, but in the right way – through achievement.
