  • Discipline Not Motivated By Anger (10-19-2010)

    PODCAST SCRIPT:

When anger enters the way we discipline our children, it is motivated more by our own insecurities than the actions of the child.

Anger has no place in discipline. It tends to erupt when the parent feels frustrated or disrespected, but it often a reaction to all the disrespect the parent has ever felt in their life. When that history explodes to the surface, unhealthy and inappropriate discipline may result.

When you discipline, think only of your child, wanting what’s best for him. If you feel your own emotions welling up, stop what you are doing and come back to it when you can get your feelings under control. Never allow anger to drive how you discipline your child.
