  • The Approachable Parent (10-13-2010)

    PODCAST SCRIPT:

Are you the kind of parent whom your teen feels comfortable coming to when they have problems?

Does your teen hide things from you? If so, maybe you need to learn to become more approachable.

Instead of reacting, just listen. Instead of judging, speak words of empathy. Instead of blowing things out of proportion, consider the problem to already be overwhelming to your teen.

Ask God’s help in becoming a discerning and loving parent, always ready to listen and slow to judge. When they’ve done wrong, show your sadness for the consequences they’ll have to suffer. It is only when they feel you are squarely on their side that they’ll open up their burdens and mistakes to you.
