  • Disciplining Isn’t Being Mean (9-17-2010)

    PODCAST SCRIPT:

Some parents don’t discipline their children because they’re afraid they will become like their own domineering parents, that they swore they would never be like.

Everybody in the family loses when the parents are inconsistent with discipline. When one parent slacks off, the other parent invariably feels they need to pick up the slack and tends to go overboard.

It’s only when parents participate in discipline equally and consistently that relationships throughout the family come into balance and flourish.

To be consistent, mom and dad should agree on some basic household rules, work as a team, and never undermine each other’s authority by adding new rules independently, or by not enforcing the established rules.
