  • Be Sure To Treat Depression (9-15-2010)

    PODCAST SCRIPT:

Since depression in teenagers is usually due to their developing brains and bodies, it tends to be temporary. But treatment should still be sought.

Some parents worry that treatment for their teenager’s depression will mean a lifetime of taking medication. But depression usually isn’t a lifelong problem when it surfaces in the teen years. Typically, medications are only needed for a short time.

If your teen is depressed, it needs to be treated, or it can lead to suicidal thoughts. It could be due to chemical imbalances, or they may just need to eat a better diet, get more exercise, or more sleep at night. But a professional will determine the cause and recommend the best course of action.
