    PODCAST SCRIPT:

Your teen’s emotional outbursts may not be directed at you. In fact, they may have nothing to do with what’s going on at home.

When teenagers are stressed, they tend to take it out on the whole family. It’s what I call the “kick the dog” syndrome.

While it is never appropriate to take out their frustrations on others – especially the dog – it never helps to get upset yourself. That only begs for a fight.

Instead, explain the inappropriateness of their rages, and help them learn to take out their frustrations in better ways, such as enrolling in a self-defense class, going on long walks, learning news ways of discussion — all designed to learn self-control.
