  • Overreacting to Normalcy (4-07-2010)

    PODCAST SCRIPT:

Parents who call me, fearful their misbehaving teenager is headed for disaster, are sometimes just overreacting.

Think of yourself in the teen years. Perhaps you put off chores, came home late, forgot things, questioned your faith, got a bad grade or two, resisted going to church, argued too much, or maybe even had trouble with the law. A level-headed parent realizes that these mistakes can be corralled and corrected.

On the other hand, parents who overreact can accomplish the opposite of what they hoped for. Their overreaction can push their teenager away, and right into the arms of the wrong crowd, where the teen will find the unconditional love and acceptance all teenagers long for.
